As an entrepreneur, an award-winning lawyer and a legal growth advisor, Evelyn has the knowledge, skills and resources to help other lawyers achieve their entrepreneurial dreams. Meet Evelyn…

Entrepreneur
After 12 years of practicing corporate law, in 2010 I launched Ackah Business Immigration Law, a boutique corporate immigration law firm based in Calgary, Alberta with offices in Vancouver and Toronto that works with clients all over the world. Our team helps businesses and individuals cross borders seamlessly into Canada and the United States. As an immigrant from Ghana, I understand the immigrant process on a deep emotional level. I was 5 when I moved to Canada and met my Father for the first time (a very common immigration experience by the way). I want to help others achieve their dreams of a new life in a new country. I’m proud to say at Ackah Law we practice #HappyLaw! The Ackah Law team works so hard for our clients because success means changing someone’s life forever.

Award-Winning Lawyer
I believe if you do your best work and work hard, your work will be recognized and appreciated. I’m proud that my law firm and I personally have received multiple awards over the year on everything from my immigration law practice to entrepreneurship to my charitable activities.

Legal Growth Advisor
No one taught me how to run a law firm in law school. I’ve spent over 10 years learning, coaching and investing with experts, and taking what I’ve learned up to the next level so my firm can benefit, and sharing what I’ve learned on my own with other law firm owners and legal entrepreneurs.

Running a law firm is a business - it’s different from practicing law. I had to learn how to recruit and hire the right legal team; the power of social media, content marketing and SEO; how to get the press to call you for an interview; how to source good 3rd part vendor solutions; how to lease offices in multiple cities and buy office equipment… and so much more…

Coach
Over the past 10 years, I’ve invested in growing my firm. I’ve hired business coaches, joined legal entrepreneur and business groups, and studied countless articles, podcasts and books. And I’ve learned a lot. But I also learned many things by trial and error and figuring out what works - and what doesn’t work.

There is no one-way right-way to run a profitable law firm. But there are new ways of doing things, new resources and tools, and many new opportunities for law firms.

Mentor
For over 10 years I’ve hired articling students and young lawyers and as their mentor, providing them with the skills they need to join a law practice or launch their own legal careers. I’ve been mentored by some outstanding lawyers, and I know the difference their guidance and advice made in my career.
